Working to revolutionise
the capability of design
simulation processes
Increasing Contribution of Engineering Simulation
There is a need for significantly more powerful design and simulation systems across a number of industrial sectors, driven by pressures to:
- reduce the costs of production, design and development
- minimise the amount of time taken to get an initial idea onto the market.
Our Vision
To drive a sustainable framework of focused, challenging, collaborative research, supported by appropriate facilities. To deliver a paradigm shift in the capability power of fluids simulation systems. Thereby revolutionising the design simulation process and transforming the user interface.
Increasing Contribution of Engineering Simulation
The importance of design and simulation systems increases as products become more complex and as designers and manufacturers strive to reduce the environmental impact of their products and operations. Advanced engineering simulation tools have a significant contribution to make.
Engineers are constantly looking to technology providers to deliver ever-more powerful and innovative simulation tools, technologies and processes.
These are best developed by the end-users working closely together with those developing such technology.
Addressing the Challenges
CFMS Ltd has been formed to:-
- Provide a focal point for establishing collective requirements
- Develop and maintain a strategy and plan for design and simulation research areas
- Facilitate and co-ordinate research work to ensure a broad range of technologies are developed at the right time
- Engage all necessary resources to enable delivery of a technology plan
- Facilitate exploitation and deployment of new technologies.
CFMS Ltd is a not-for-profit company, established by its members - Airbus, BAE SYSTEMS, Frazer-Nash Consultancy, MBDA UK, Rolls-Royce and Williams F1 - as a vehicle for collaboration. The vision of CFMS Ltd is to transform the design and simulation process.
The member companies recognise a business need to develop significantly more powerful design simulation systems; which can best be achieved by joining forces and co-ordinating skills, resources and funding.
CFMS Ltd has a programme of research structured around the following objectives:
- moving from physical testing to virtual testing
- allowing engineers to focus on new design and innovation
- delivering technology that enables lean design processes.
A broad range of enabling technologies and application challenges are being addressed. These include areas such as:
- data management
- IT architecture
- algorithm development
- knowledge management
- user interface enhancements.
Benefits of CFMS
CFMS Ltd is providing a vehicle for collaboration and maintaining a focus on research. It is allowing optimisation of resources by avoiding duplication of effort, whilst also ensuring that fundamental research is supported and pulled though to industrial applications across a broad range of sectors. The overall impact will be to significantly increase the rate of development of fluid simulation systems.
As an independent organisation with robust commercial processes, CFMS Ltd facilitates the involvement of other organisations and businesses without fear of compromising market advantage.
The capability being developed within the CFMS framework will ensure that companies in the UK and in other European countries can access the design and simulation technologies needed to develop the right products at the right time. This in turn will help to maintain competitive advantage, secure and create the associated high value employment and other economic benefits.
